'JAMBALAYA, THE MUSICAL' is a sexy, rollicking 90 minute musical set on the shores of the lush Louisiana Bayou. Funny, irreverent, exciting and poignant, the show is a celebration of the power of the human spirit to survive everything from hurricanes to heartbreak. It is a delicious peek into the fascinating Cajun culture, humor, traditions and superstitions. Drawing on a diverse mixture of music and dance, the show takes the audience on a wild ride through a Cajun-flavored world.
Boudreaux, our enthusiastic Cajun guide, leads us through the heart of the story in a fun-filled journey across time, his vivid imagination and the Bayou. His humor and philosophies keep coming as he introduces the uniqueness of his world and the beauty of its people. Most importantly, he reveals that his beloved Cajun culture is at risk of disappearing and it is up to the younger generation to carry it into the future.
The subplot focuses around Boudreaux’s 22 year old Grandson, T, as he struggles with love, youthful insecurity and skepticism about all things 'Cajun'. Boudreaux took him in when his parents were lost during the Katrina disaster but 'T' doesn't care about where he's from... only where he's going next. To that end, T wants to be a songwriter and is sending his original music to a publisher in Nashville, hoping for a break that will take him away from the swamp. Meanwhile, 'T' has a massive crush on a local girl, Danielle, from the 'well-heeled' side of town and has no idea she has one on him. They keep passing by each other, steps away, almost touching... that is, until the 'Lady in the Moon' does her magic. The 'Lady in the Moon' is a mystical, made-up tale that winds through the story, predicting it's true love between people ONLY when both people can see her face in the moon.
It is a young man’s ‘coming of age’ story, a look at the perspectives by two completely different generations from the Bayou and a Cajun man's pride in his heritage that cross paths surrounded with fiery music, sizzling dance, black magic and outrageous characters.
Most importantly, it is a story about love... between a girl and a boy, a man and his grandson, a community and their love for the richness of their culture.
